The Story of The Little Engine That Could
Once upon a time, in a big train yard, there were many shiny engines. Some were strong and powerful, while others were small and quick.
One day, a train filled with toys and food for children was ready to go over a tall mountain. But suddenly, the engine that was supposed to pull it broke down! The toys became worried and started crying, “How will we get to the children?”
The clown toy said, “We need another engine to help us.”
The toys went to a big shiny engine and asked for help. But the big engine said,
“I only pull fast trains, not toy trains!” and puffed away.
Next, they asked a strong freight engine. But the strong engine replied,
“I carry heavy loads, not silly toys!” and rumbled away.
Finally, the toys saw a little blue engine. It was small but kind.
“Will you please help us?” asked the toys.
The little blue engine looked at the mountain. It was very steep, and the train was heavy. But it said,
“I think I can. I think I can!”
So, the little engine hooked up to the train and started chugging.
“Chug, chug, chug! I think I can, I think I can!” it said again and again. Slowly, it climbed the mountain. It was hard, but the little engine didn’t stop.
Finally, it reached the top!
“I thought I could! I thought I could!” it cheered as it rolled down the other side.
The toys were happy, and the children received their gifts—all because the little engine believed in itself and never gave up!
