In a big green forest, there lived a little squirrel named Sammy. He was small, with shiny brown fur and a big fluffy tail. Sammy loved to climb trees and collect nuts for the winter.
But there was one thing Sammy wanted more than anything else – to jump from the tallest oak tree to the maple tree nearby, just like the older squirrels.
“Someday, I will do it!” Sammy said to himself every morning.

The First Try
One bright morning, Sammy climbed up the tall oak tree. He looked down and then across at the maple tree.
“Oh my! That’s a long way!” he squeaked.
But he remembered his dream, took a deep breath, and jumped!
WHOOSH!
Oh no! Sammy missed and fell onto a soft pile of leaves.
The other squirrels laughed, “You’re too small, Sammy. You can’t do it.”
Sammy felt sad, but he whispered,
“I will try again tomorrow.”
The Second Try
The next day, Sammy climbed again. This time, he tried harder.
“Ready… set… JUMP!”
But thud! He landed on the same pile of leaves.
His friends giggled again.
“Give up, Sammy!” they said.
But Sammy shook his little tail and said,
“No! I never give up!”
The Big Day
Every day, Sammy practiced jumping on smaller branches, running faster, and getting stronger. He didn’t listen to anyone who said, “You can’t.”
Finally, one sunny morning, Sammy felt ready.
He climbed the tall oak tree, looked at the maple tree, and said,
“I can do this. I am brave. I never give up!”
He ran as fast as his little paws could go and leaped!
For a moment, he was flying in the air… and then—he landed on the maple tree!
He did it!
All the other squirrels cheered,
“Yay, Sammy! You are amazing!”
The Lesson
From that day on, Sammy was the happiest squirrel in the forest. He taught everyone that
“If you keep trying and never give up, you can do anything!”
